On October 11-12, 2018, an industry meeting of scientists will take place in Krakow as part of the International Workshop on Functional Nanostructured Materials Conference (FuNaM-2). This is the second edition of the workshops organized by the Faculty of Chemistry of the Jagiellonian University. This year, there will be, among others, Krzysztof Skupień, who will talk about how to prepare samples of nanomaterials for spectrophotometric measurements using appropriate laboratory equipment.
During his speech, dr inż. Krzysztof Skupień, managing director of Hoger and president of 3D-nano will present the results of research carried out with the use of a spectrophotometer and a spectofluorimeter of a reputable company JASCO. It was using these devices that nanomaterials were measured, which in its commercial offer has 3D-nano.
– During the workshop I will show spectral spectra for our metallic nanoparticles and quantum dots – says Krzysztof Skupień. – I will also pay attention to safety when preparing samples of nanomaterials for this type of measurements. This is very important because solvents such as toluene and hexane, which are often used to prepare dispersions of quantum dots, are classified as toxic substances. I will discuss how to conduct the experiment in a safe environment, i.e. in a suitably selected glovebox.
FuNaM is a very interesting formula of the meeting – it’s a time of discussion and exchange of experiences between young scientists just starting their careers and researchers with already significant achievements. During the event, well-known and respected speakers from Poland and abroad will deliver their speeches. Young scientists will present the results of their research in the form of short oral or poster speeches, the best of which will be awarded in the competition.
This year’s edition of the conference is extended by workshops on the development of interdisciplinary skills to look at the conducted research, as well as the possibility of publishing research results in renowned magazines.
– I think that FuNaM is also a good place to tell young scientists about safety while working in a laboratory – adds Krzysztof. – In our everyday activities we focus very much on this aspect. Our brand – Hoger, which manufactures gloveboxes – is not only in the mode of operator protection, but also the product, is a partner of the EU campaign “Hazardous substances under control”. I will certainly mention it.
The FuNaM conference is under the honorary patronage of the Rector of the Jagiellonian University, the Mayor of Kraków, Jacek Majchrowski, and the Marshal of the Lesser Poland Voivodeship.
